The 8th Annual Mr. Personality Festival took place in the Springhill Court hotel in Kilkenny on the weekend of the 19th and 20th of April in the Springhill Court Hotel in Kilkenny. The festival was hosted by Kilkenny Macra and was sponsored by Kilkenny/Carlow and District Farm Relief Services. 30 contestants from all over Ireland traveled to the Marble City for a fun filled weekend where they were interviewed on stage with optional party piece, completed challenges and were interviewed by the three judges – Carmel Brennan, Mr Personality Committee member, Clara Walsh, Midland 103 FM and John Nolan, Freshford Macra. On Friday night the contestants were interviewed on stage by former Macra President Matt O’Keeffe before dancing the night away to Adam’s Locker and DJ. On Saturday there were contestant challenges where the 30 contestants participated in five activities – Giant jenga, buzz off, bucking bronco, operation and bungee run. This was followed by lunch and then in the afternoon the individual interviews took place. Before commencement of the Informal Banquet, which was attended by over 400 people, each participant was presented with their memento of the weekend by John Connolly, of the Kilkenny Carlow and District Farm Relief Services. Speaking at the banquet Mr. Dempsey said that Kilkenny Carlow and District Farm Relief Services were delighted to be involved in such a successful festival and that he remembers all the friends he has met in Macra. Committee Chairperson Denis Drennan complimented the rest of the committee on organising the event, hotel staff for the smooth running of the weekend and speaking on behalf of the judges Clara Walsh said that there was a very high standard of entrants and they had represented their club and county well and wished the winners well. The result was announced at 12 midnight on Saturday night with Paudie Meade from North Tipperary becoming the 8th Mr. Personality. In second place was Gerard Mahon from Offaly and 3rd was Brendan Phlean from Kilkenny. Paudie was presented with €500 cheque, a perpetual trophy and a weekend break in any of the Brennan Hotels. Gerard received a trophy, a cheque for €300 and a mid-week break in any of the Brennan Hotels and Brendan received a trophy, €200 and a weekend break in the Aspect Hotel in Kilkenny. Mr. Personality 2013 Paudie is from the Devilsbit Club and is a dairy farmer. Paudie’s hobbies and interests include Hurling, showing pedigree cattle and swimming. Gerard is a Livestock Auctioneer/ Estate Agent from the Killoughey Club in offaly and Brendan is a Civil/Project Engineer from the Callan club in Kilkenny.
